Indian Head Massage

What does a treatment involve?

This is another highly beneficial and deeply relaxing massage therapy which is carried out on the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, scalp and face.  Before starting the massage you will be comfortably seated in an upright position on a straight backed chair.  Your feet should be flat on the floor, shoes removed and tight waistbands and collars should be loosened for comfort.  Your arms should be relaxed and the hands resting comfortably in your lap.  When you are ready the therapist will place her hands lightly on your shoulders and you will be asked to take threee deep breaths in and out in order to prepare for treatment.  If oil is to be used this will have been agreed at the consultation beforehand.  With the aid of tranquil background music you can drift away whilst a relaxing massage routine using a range of popular movements developed for Indian head massage is carried out.

What is Indian Head Massage?

In India massage has been practiced for over 4000 years and promoted the belief that health results form the harmony within oneself.  In India traditional head massage practised by women was restricted mainly to the head and hair.  Narendra Mehta extended these techniques to include back, neck, shoulders, upper arms and face.  Indian head massage is a safe and simple therapy that promotes hair growth, reduces stress, and provides relief from aches and pains.

How does it work?

When we are feeling stressed or angry, tension builds up in energy centres around the head, face, neck and shoulders.  This can later display itself as eye strain, headaches, migrane and stiff neck and shoulders.  This firm but gentle massage technique helps to unblock this uncomfortable build up of tension and aid relief.  The effect of this therapy is not just physical but works on and emotional level too, calming the spirit, relieving stress and promoting relaxation.
